EL SEGUNDO, CA – August 8, 2025 – Picogrid, a leading developer of integrated systems, announced today that Flyby Robotics, a drone startup, has joined its open partner ecosystem. The partnership integrates Flyby F-11, a flexible, American-made unmanned aerial system (UAS) with configurable onboard artificial intelligence, into Picogrid’s network of interoperable technologies.
The integration addresses a critical challenge for the Department of Defense: the inability of drones from different vendors to work together. Picogrid’s Legion software platform uses an open architecture to break down these data silos, allowing best-in-class drones, sensors, and other devices to connect and operate as a unified system. The F-11 brings advanced capabilities for real-time processing, object recognition, and resilient navigation in GPS-denied environments to the entire ecosystem.
“Mission requirements vary—some need a hand-launched quadcopter, others need a long-endurance system. What they all need is the ability to operate as one,” said Zane Mountcastle, CEO and cofounder of Picogrid. “That’s why this ecosystem matters. It brings together the best of U.S. unmanned systems and makes them interoperable by default. The F-11 is particularly exciting, as its onboard AI unlocks entirely new use cases for autonomous operations in low-bandwidth or contested environments.”
By joining the Picogrid ecosystem, Flyby Robotics bypasses lengthy and complex integration efforts, making its technology immediately available to a wide range of government programs.
“Modern missions demand systems that can think for themselves,” said Jason Lu, CEO of Flyby Robotics. “The F-11 was designed to deliver that kind of intelligence at the edge. Now that it’s integrated with Legion, operators can use it alongside other sensors and unmanned systems without custom software or special approvals. It just works.”
As the DoD continues to invest in a resilient domestic drone industrial base, this partnership accelerates the deployment of new capabilities. It ensures that soldiers and first responders can field the best available tools for any mission without being locked into a single vendor and those systems can be more easily integrated with existing networks.
Picogrid continues to expand its ecosystem with new partners. Companies interested in providing interoperable solutions and growing their market reach with our team can apply for a Q3 integration slot here.
