Picogrid and FISTA Expand Funding for Cameron University

LAWTON, Oklahoma, March 11, 2025 – Picogrid, a FISTA Innovation Park tenant, has increased its research funding for Cameron University by $28,000, bringing the total to $128,000. This expansion strengthens the joint national security research at Cameron University.

"This collaboration is not just about funding research—it’s about investing in people, technology, and the future of defense innovation," said Albert Johnson, Jr., Vice President for University Advancement at Cameron University. "By working closely with Picogrid, we create real-world opportunities for students and researchers. The Lawton-Fort Sill region has a deep history of military expertise, and we’re excited to help build its future."

Initiated through the Small Business Technology Transfer program, this funding now prioritizes military operations and border protection applications, focusing on the deployment of sensors and uncrewed systems to enhance national security.

As part of this initiative, Picogrid is expanding its existing collaboration with Cameron University, a Lawton institution governed by the Board of Regents of the University of Oklahoma, by bringing in a new partner, CustomWeather, a San Francisco-based company specializing in advanced weather modeling.

CustomWeather joins Neros Technologies and Icarus in integrating weather intelligence, uncrewed systems, and sensor technology in one common operating picture for military operations.

Cameron University researchers and students will receive a new $28,000 subcontract.

Picogrid announced its Oklahoma expansion last year. After securing a FISTA Innovation Park lease in 2024, Picogrid’s new manufacturing facility is now under development, positioning Lawton as a major hub for defense technology production and research.
